No recordings in planner after update.

Any other questions about the software?

No recordings in planner after update.

Postby ads1958 » Mon Sep 20, 2010 11:53 pm

Hi There. Hope you can help.

Have used copy+ before and no probs. Great piece of software.

This time however .......

As my 2nd box i had an ancient MK1 sky+ box which had an upgraded drive of 160gb. No problems and has worked for years. Last month it died but luckily it was not the hard drive. Hard drive extracted and image created no problem.

I now have a shiny new 500gb Amstrad SKY+ HD box. I have connected the box up to my PC via USB and (apparently) sucessfully copied the recordings from the image onto the drive on the box. Now the problem. On swtching on the box the planner is empty. I have tried a planner re-build and no dice. I have tried recording something on the box and playing it back. No Problem playing it and the box shows 100% free.

Any pointers to what i have done wrong would be great

Andy

Sorry you are having problems - But unfortunately I can not say exactly what is wrong here from your description.

You seem to be implying that you have a Pace V1 (Mk 1) Version 9F20nn and have transferred to a Amstrad DRX890 Version 4F310n? This would imply both boxes are big endian, and so no conversion would be needed. However without the exact box version numbers it is impossible to say for certain.

Also which version of Copy+ have you used (suggest Beta 1.2.0.7 for maximum compatibility with the newer boxes) and which EPG version are they both running (probably hard to say for the source box as it is no longer working). However there have been some significant changes in the planner formats, so it is possible that this is causing the problem or that this transfer is no longer possible.

Thanks for the rapid reply. I will try and clarify.

Yes the new box is and Amstrad DRX890 Version 4F3105. EPG 37.1.19.6. The old one was a very very early Pace MK1 with a samsung 160gb hard drive. ( so early that i suffered the dreaded 17 ??? min bug if that helps) No idea on the epg version being run but would not have been anything unusual for the box i would have thought.

I am using 1.2.0.5 at the moment but will try downloading the beta tomorrow and see if that helps. Too late now. Been up since 05:25 so bed is calling !!

You worry me with the final comment. Is it possible that i will not be able to transfer the recordings because i hung onto my antique box for so long ! :(

Andy

PS If i use the beta will i need to re-create the image of the old-drive using the beta or am i OK just using the beta on the creation of the new drive. ?

There are a couple of different planner database formats at the moment.
A little bizarrely the older boxes actually use a newer format than the new boxes! Although Sky have made a effort to make them forward and backward compatible with the fact that for the moment the old boxes are maintaining both versions in case of the need for a software rollback.

You should have both databases ending DB3 (new versions) and DBF (old versions). The main planner database is an exception, it is called JOPA.DB3 (new) and just plain JOPA (old).
I suppose it is possible that the old JOPA is either corrupt or missing. I believe that is what the HD box will be looking for, as they have not yet moved to the new format.

Unfortunately transferring recordings between box types, especially SD to HD and vice versa has always been more by good design on Sky's part and a bit of luck rather than by design. However there may be one or two things we can try if you still can not get the beta version of Copy+ to work successfully.

I think you should be okay with your existing disk image.

No Joy i'm afraid.

Couple of things to report. The beta version gave an error report after the convert saying that there were serious errors on the source disk which copy+ had attempted to repair on the destination. Nothing in planner even after rebuild.

I then just tried the oldest 5 recordings on the box as a selctive upgrade. Same error message, same result.

What do you think ??

Okay, looks about right. Your old box is using the DB3 versions, whereas the new HD box will probably be using the JOPA and DBF versions.
You could try sending me the JOPA and JOPA.DB3 so I can see if they contain the same data. The SD box should have been maintaining both copies before it died.

You might also want to try deleting all of the files with the exception of:
OTVERT.MAP
SETUP.DAT
ROOT_DIR.CP0
JOPA
OTVERT2.MAP
_JOPA.DB3
JOPA.DB3
The above are the bare minimum required to retain your planner. The box will recreate all the other files from scratch, albeit you will lose series links and the like.
To delete the files you will need to use the WriteProt utility first to remove the write protection from the drive (search the forums) and also remove the XTVFS drivers (if installed). Also please use Windows Command Prompt (DEL) to do the deleting, and not Windows Explorer which will create a recycle bin (which is best avoided).

Will try this but slightly unsure what you mean. Do you want me to delete these files on the updated disk or do you want me to update the original disk and then go through the copy+ procedure again. I have got disk space to do this and still retain both images.

If this does not work what is the best way to send you the files so you can have a look. ***EDIT*** just checked my emails and saw the one giving me your email address. DOH !

KEEP the files in the above list - delete everything else.
It is fine to do this on the destination disk after you have restored with Copy+ and then go on to use it in the box. If it doesn't work you will still have the full backup XTV file to try something else with.
Absolutely NO need to go to the effort of backing up and restoring again.

[/quote]ZIP them and e-mail them.
They zip quite small as they are mostly empty.
Ypu should have an e-mail from me so you know my address.
