Recordings not showing in Copy+

Postby tiptonian » Tue Dec 28, 2010 1:46 pm

I recently upgraded my Amstrad HD box from the original 320GB drive to a Western Digital 1.5TB drive. The original drive was too corrupted to use copy+ so I watched or dumped to a HDD/DVD recorder all the content before simply removing the original disk and replacing it with the new disk. However, this new has filled up extremely rapidly and appears to be using about 1% (15GB) per hour for a mix of HD and SD programming. I was suspicious that the new disk may not have formated correctly so I have put it in my PC and the disk Management tool shows disk 1 as being 1397.26GB FAT32, while it also shows the XTV_STR_DSK volume as having a capacity of just 451.92GB which seems to confirm my suspicion.

So I was going to make a backup with copy+, reformat the disk and then restore the files. However, Copy+ does not display the content after setting the source disk. Each program entry in the log file includes the statement "Endian autodetect failed!" and, after a dump of an EXT file, states "The recording directory is not valid!". The complete log file is over 2MB but the first part follows:

Ah, it appears it could be the same problem as viewtopic.php?f=6&t=918 - the followups, not the freezing bit which doesn't affect me.

Hi, Sorry you seem to be having problems.

The problems on the other thread you linked to are to do with the New Zealand Sky boxes and probably not relevant to UK.
What appears to have happened here is that your box has spontaneously reformatted the disk and to the incorrect size. This happens for disks over 508GB on all but the latest HD boxes. Now all of the recordings appear to Copy+ to be incorrect as they are not aligned in the correct place on the disk.
Although a fix might be possible with an image of your disk, I am not sure what will happen when Darwin arrives on your box. The formatting parameters for Darwin are completely different from pre-Darwin boxes for disks over 1TB. This may just cause further issues later down the line.

Unfortunately there is currently no solution available for Darwin boxes or any timescales for when one might be available.
Sorry.
