Samsung to Amstrad box swap

Hi,

I have a faulty 006 samsung which I upgraded with a Western Digital WD10EVDS some time back and works fine. After several problems since the software update I have been offered a 500gb Amstrad. Does anyone know if I will be able to just drop the 1TB disk into this amstrad? I assume all the Amstrads are running Darwin?

Thanks,

Probably, but:
1. Once you have done this the drive will be upgraded to Darwin. There is no way back from that once you start making new recordings, so suggest you have a backup if recordings are that important.
2. Make sure you have enough free space on the disk to account for the Anytime space discrepancy between the two models: 250Gb vs 140gb

Thanks for that, my 006 is already darwin so shouldn't be a conflict there.

Thanks again, the wife will be pleased

NP - Only issue then would be if the Amstrad doesn't like the WD drive for some reason.

Just in case anyone is interested, or comes accross this at a later date..

New box delivered, HDD swapped out and all working fine.

Big thanks for the HDD replacement guides too, I'm more than happy with my hands inside a PC but I'm not sure I'd have attempted this without the guides for fear of never getting it back together again! Much more complicated than the old style boxes.
