Sorry about the delay, had to save a little cash to buy the seagate ST31000533cs drive.

Just to report good news, IT WORKS GREAT! :D . Running for over two weeks now and no problems.

Ebuyer had these in stock, amazing service as always. Free delivery option and still got it next day.

Like to say thanks to Stuart for helping me fix errors on the old hdd (thx to Eset Antivirus) and skituscanycom for your feedback.

1.5 or 2TB drives with Samsung box anyone?

ebuyer comes up with this drive instead of the ST31000533cs
http://www.ebuyer.com/search?q=ST31000533cs&x=67&y=10
its the ST31000520AS which is a low power drive
im worried it will cause problems being a low power drive as to the spin up speed as this seems to cause problems

Hi Shaggy

Keep an eye on Ebuyer, they may order more in. You could try ringing them.
When I bought mine they were selling like hot cakes (everyone is upgrading there sky box maybe). I paid about £62.00.

I wouldn't risk trying a different model, more likely not to work in Samsung box.
Amazon sell it but a little pricey.........

Good Luck

Why the ST31000533CS? Its a 7200rpm disk, it would be inherently noisier...

I've stayed with the same pipeline model of the orginal hardisk and installed a 1TB 5900.2 Pipeline ST31000322CS into a Samsung box.

Has anyone else used this disk? The box works fine, its just a overly loud "clunking" when playing back a recording. As if more than one thing is being written to the disk...

I've got Anytime turned on still, wondering if I should turn it off?

The ST31000533cs 7200 rpm drive is very quiet for me!. Only the odd click on boot and to standby.

Ive turned off Anytime Tv because disk will be spinning most of the time, equals more chance of hard drive failure. Also not a feature I use anyhow. Environment friendly too. :)

Unsuitable disk: Seagate ST31000340AS (SD14 firmware)
SkyHD box version: Samsung 973007

Tried putting the Seagate 7200.11 from my old Thomson box in to the Samsung today and it would not come out of standby.

Put in an order for the Seagate Pipeline HD - ST31000322CS which will hopefully do the job. It's not 32MB Cache or 7200RPM but it's the same spec & series as the pre-installed disk which is an ST3320310CS. Although 'better' on paper I wonder whether 32MB cache and 7200rpm would give any 'real world' advantage and surely just uses more power, gets hotter and makes more noise?

Anyone else's box take 10 Min to boot up (before the green light will work)?

Mine has done this since upgrading to the 750Gb Seagate. NOt usually a problem, but lately I'm getting standby/Blue Screen and have to reboot.

My Thomson would take a long time to come out of standby for the first time after a power cycle when it had the 1TB drive in it (10 mins sometimes). Was very annoying if I the picture froze up requiring a reboot which would mean I'd miss 10 mins of whatever I was trying to watch.

Just reporting back.

Received the ST31000322CS yesterday (took 10 days to get on back-order). All working great, handles two HD programs recording and one being watched at the same time. Can hear a very slight clunk now and then but will adjust the acoustic tuning at some point as it's currently on the default setting.

Interestingly the current ratings on both 5/12v are lower than the original 320GB disk.
