Random Question about standby

Postby steveocole » Sat Feb 06, 2010 1:31 am

Hi guys,

My samsung sky box keeps getting stuck in standby. It has an updated hdd to 1tb.

Could this be the hard drive failing? any ideas|? cheers.

At present switching off at the wall and back on again seems to work.

Thanks

steve

Usually this is one of the signs of an incompatible drive.
Which make and model HDD did you use?

I actually bought the sky hd box ages ago, the hdd has been working fine, so dont know if its failing. I dont know what drive it is unless i take it out.

Think its a hitachi, 1tb but thats all i can remember.

Is it possible to use 1.5tb hdd now using copy plus?

Is it a Thomson box? More likely a failing PSU I would have thought? Or have you had that fixed.

The situation with drives greater than 1TB is uncertain at the moment. The Amstrad HD box seems to support them as there are ebay sellers selling them.
The original problem was an incompatibility with the box firmware NOT Copy+.
That may have been raised recently, with the launch of the new boxes.
However I do not know for certain and my advice is still at or below 1TB unless you want to take a chance.

Thanks for the quick reply.

What would be the best 1tb hdd to replace the old one with on my samsung hd box?

Thanks

I am sorry, I really can not say. I do not own a HD box, and my experience of upgrading them is limited to one friends Thomson unit.
A user on here called skituscanycom went through a lot of pain with finding a drive compatibile with the Samsung box, so you might want to check out some of his posts.
Hope this helps a little, Stuart.
